The charging system of the type 1 plug system is based on the latest requirements of SAE J1772 and IEC 62195-2. To avoid voltage spikes and the associated flashovers when disconnecting the connector, type 1 has a lever. This lever engages when the connector is inserted into the charging station. When the lever is operated, this is signalled to the vehicle by means of an NC contact via the PP signal contact, and the charging process is stopped immediately.
The connector has five contacts: two current-carrying contacts (L1 and L2/N), one protective conductor (PE) and two signal contacts (CP and PP) which are responsible for communication between the infrastructure and vehicle.
The maximum charging capacity is 7.4 kW at 230V AC with a maximum charging current of 32A.
